I had been to Central America once before, visiting Guatemala and Costa Rica, so I spent the least amount of time in those countries. This was a two month trip from the Yucatan Peninsula to the Panama Canal. The verdict? It's better to visit Central America rather than South America. There, I said it. It sounds like sacrilege, but there is an impressive variety of things to see and do in a small area: beaches, mountains, volcanos, rainforest, ruins, colonial towns, solid people, etc. Plus, it is easy to hitchhike--the buses make me crazy--so it can be fun to travel around. Click on the license plates on the left to see some photos of each place. They aren't the greatest photos, but it gives you a taste.
